This New Titanfall 2 Mode Would Be Great If Not For One Catch
We have mostly good news today. EA revealed Titanfall 2 will have a special mode called Coliseum that will allow players to enter one-on-one dueling matches with their friends. Is that cool, or what? How could it possibly disappoint?
Like this. You can’t actually access the mode by normally playing the game. You can’t even pay for the mode as DLC. Nay, this may be the most corporate thing we’ve seen yet: in order to play the Coliseum mode, you have to buy junk food first.
The access codes, referred to as Coliseum Tickets by EA, are only accessible inside bags of Doritos and Mountain Dew (because it’s stereotypical bro food, and video games are only for bros, bro). You can also get them from Buffalo Wild Wings, but still. What kind of cynical ploy is this?
“Accessible only by Coliseum tickets, this fast, ruthless game mode is determined by the best 2 out of 3,” says EA. “The winner walks away with gifts and unlockables in the form of Advocate Gifts. Fame and fortune await you in the Coliseum, but only those who come armed with their wits, cunning and Coliseum ticket will taste victory.”
The aforementioned Advocate Gifts include exclusive titan skins, early access to the Ronin class titan and a pilot execution, but they also require the purchase of something that’s not a game. This cannot be allowed to become a trend.
