Ubisoft Confirms The Division Movie
Ubisoft wants movies made of all its video game properties. Will those movies be good? That’s irrelevant. Ubisoft just WANTS THEM MADE. NOW.
The Division hasn’t been around very long, and it’s been plagued with game-breaking bugs since its inception, but that hasn’t stopped Ubisoft from declaring it such an iconic, permanent part of gaming culture that it deserves its own movie. Said movie was announced today, along with the confirmation of its two leads: Jessica Chastain (The Martian, Interstellar, The Help, Zero Dark Thirty) and Jake Gyllenhaal (Bubble Boy).
“We are excited to collaborate with Jessica and Jake, two of Hollywood’s most talented actors and perfect creative collaborators to help bring Tom Clancy’s The Division™ to the big screen,” said Gerard Guillemot, Chief Executive Officer, Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film,” added Matt Phelps, Vice President, Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
“So what’s next, a Watch Dogs movie?” you might ask. You’re clearly out of the loop because the Watch Dogs movie was announced months ago. Nearly all of Ubisoft’s IPs have movies in development, including Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, and an animated Rabbids feature.
Of course, if one of these movies bombs, all traces of these boisterous plans will disappear. And that could very well happen. The first of Ubisoft’s game-to-movie projects to see release is Assassin’s Creed, making its debut this December — opening the same day as Star Wars: Rogue One.
