Path of Exile 2 – Gearing Up for the Change
Path of Exile, by Grinding Gear, turned ten in 2023, and it’s still one of the best free-to-play options on the market. This action RPG offers a wealth of customization, gameplay, and content you can enjoy without spending a penny.
There has been no pay-to-win in Path of Exile, and developer Grinding Gear Games has generally adhered to its commitment. Now the sequel is in the works, and it’s shaping up to be a wonderful addition to the beloved hack and slash dungeon crawler.
There is a natural tendency to be skeptical when a project promises to deliver the stars and moon; however, Grinding Gear has a track record of generally good work which backs up their words.

In a recent blog post, Path of Exile 2 developers assured players that the original game would not disappear any time soon. At ExileCon, Grinding Gear Games announced that Path of Exile 2 will become a separate title, following extensive expansions since it was initially announced four years ago.
Initially, there were concerns about replacing the beloved Path of Exile 1 with the sequel (something we recently saw with Overwatch replacing the first game). Rogers said, “We realized that our plan to replace PoE1 with PoE2 would essentially be getting rid of a game that people love for no real reason. So we made a decision: Path of Exile 1 and 2 will be separate, with their own mechanics, balance, endgames, and leagues.” Despite being separate games, PoE1 and PoE2 won’t be entirely disconnected. In-game purchases will be available in both, with exceptions for compatibility issues.
