Maelstrom Comes to Uprising L2 Network
Uprising L2 network has teamed up with Maelstrom, an FTP 3D battle royale game, to bring it to blockchain gaming. An esports event is currently underway where participants can play the game and earn points.
A team behind the Uprising L2 Blockchain has announced that the Web2 naval battle royale game Maelstrom will come to the Oasys-powered network. The announcement stated that they would essentially be the game’s web3 publisher, while Fortnight Entertainment would continue to handle the traditional side of the game. However, there was no specific release date for the blockchain version.
With plans to port the game to Unreal Engine 5, Fortnight Entertainment sees new content and a new season pass. Plus, the studio will introduce price drops for existing DLCs. The team intends to make new partnerships and expand internationally.
Maelstromm Forges New Partnership With Uprising
In addition to the traditional and blockchain gaming market, these new partnerships also include the web3 gaming space. According to the Medium post, this partnership “marks a significant step forward in blending traditional and blockchain gaming experiences.” It’s not clear what the web3 version will entail.
In March 2018, Maelstrom launched as a paid title on Steam in Early Access. It became a free-to-play title in September 2019 with mostly positive reviews. However, the game has struggled to find a large player base, reaching 1,327 players in September 2019.
The last update was in December 2020, which led to the game lying dormant. When Fortnight Entertainment and Gunpowder Games decided to revive it in August 2024, the game was ported to Unreal Engine 5 and will be relaunched with improved performance and visuals.
In addition, the game is still available for free on Steam, and you can enjoy action-packed 3D naval battles with up to 16 players. You have your choice of playing as a Human, Dwarf, Orc, or Ghost warship, and you can play free-for-all along with a team of your friends.
